Encrypted Research Storage
Read-later services often monetize reading behavior or retain unencrypted plaintext archives. Clipfile treats your reading list as sensitive research.
🔒 AES Encryption at Rest
Full article bodies saved for offline reading are encrypted on your device with AES-GCM before they sync, using a key derived via HKDF-SHA256 from your private sync token, so the sync server holds the bodies only as ciphertext. Because that token is also sent to the server with every request, this is encryption at rest with a key the server handles, not end-to-end encryption. Titles and web addresses are stored unencrypted, so your list can sync and be sorted into folders. The offline copy on each of your devices is kept in the app's own storage, not separately encrypted.
🔑 Private Sync Token Architecture
You do not create an account with email and password. Clipfile provisions a cryptographically strong private token on your first device. It reaches your other Apple devices through iCloud Keychain, or you can move it with a short pairing code that works once and expires after five minutes, or copy it by hand.
🚫 Zero Third-Party Monetization
There are no advertisements, no tracking scripts, no behavioral analytics, and no resale of reading data to data brokers or advertising networks.
